Szarkowski

oh yeah. there's also a really great retrospective of John Szarkowski's photographs up at the moma right now. szarkowski helped put the moma photo department on the map back in the day, and he's more known as a curator than a photographer. his stuff is very quiet and beautiful.

holding steady

I'm a little behind the curve on this one, but the hold steady are my new favorite band. they play like they've got nothing left to lose. they're like cheap trick and early springsteen meet, um, some terrific drugged-out short story writer.

sf-j wrote some good stuff about them recently, along with my other fave, the mountain goats.

I suspect malice

what the hell? I'm on my back with with a little gremlin trying to eat my intestines a week ago, and i'm able to fight the good fight and kick it out. now, suddenly, my chest hurts when i cough, my head is throbbing, i might be feverish, and i have zero appitite. and e's and my parents are supposed to be meeting for the first time tomorrow!

malice, for the love of axl, put the voodoo doll away. I take back everything I said. you are the king of the universe. "chinese democracy" is definitely dropping like a bomb this year. the upper west side is almost as cool as brooklyn.
